Out of more than 535,000 finance and insurance related job postings listed in January 2017, 77% of them were considered to be positions that required a focus on analytics, according to research conducted by Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC). In addition, a study done by the Business-Higher Education Forum found that 69% of employers will prefer job candidates with analytical skills by 2021.
Employers are searching for financial analysts, planners, and advisers who can pull together and manage the proper data, pinpoint key takeaways from that information, and make important business decisions based on their findings to move their companies forward.

Creighton University’s Business Intelligence and Analytics master’s program is designed with your schedule in mind. Classes are held on-campus in the evenings at Creighton University’s Heider College of Business. Alternatively you can also work toward your master’s degree on your time by completing coursework online. Regardless of where you learn, this program can help you upgrade your skillset and prepare for new opportunities in a data-driven role in as little as two years.
To earn a Master of Science in Business Intelligence and Analytics at Creighton University, you must complete 33 credits:
- 12 credits of core courses
- BIA 762 – Survey of Business Intelligence and Analytics
- BIA 772 – Data Visual Analysis and Visualization
- BIA 782 – Database Management Systems
- MBA 776 – Business, Ethics, and Society
- 21 credits of elective courses
- Students should choose elective courses based on their area of interest.
- At least 15 credits should be other 700-level BIA courses.
- Students who have not completed BIA 253, an undergraduate BIA survey course, must take BIA 731 as an elective
- The remaining six credits should be chosen from a selection of other accounting, economy, finance, or investment management courses. See the course catalog for more details.

The requirements listed below apply to the Master of Business Intelligence and Analytics program only.
- Bachelor’s degree, regardless of field of study
- Applicants must show demonstrated proficiency in computer programming, either through a class or work experience.
- Applicants must have completed one undergraduate statistics course that included correlation and regression. Students without such a class may instead complete a non-credit statistics tutorial offered by the college for an additional fee.
- Completed application (requires non-refundable $50 fee)
- Two letters of recommendation from persons other than family members who can speak to your performance in an academic or work setting
- Personal statement of about 500 words focusing on how a master’s degree fits within your career plans and which aspects of this program are most appealing.
- One official transcript from each institution of collegiate rank attended by the applicant. Transcripts can be sent directly to Enrollment Services, 2500 California Plaza, Omaha, NE 68178.
- Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)
- All applicants must submit an acceptable score report on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).

- International Students Only:
- Applicants from countries in which English is not the primary language must demonstrate proficiency in English language by submitting a minimum TOEFL score of 90 iBT (557 PBT) or a minimum IELTS overall band score of 6.5 (no sub score lower than 6). Not required for students who have earned a bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited institution in the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or Africa (English-speaking only).
- International applicants must provide a “Certification of Available Finances” form in order for the I-20 form to be issued by the Global Engagement Office if an applicant is admitted to the program.
- Work on projects that involve real-world data sets, develop basic data-driven models, and obtain a basic understanding of analytics by earning the Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics.
- Credits earned for a graduate certificate can be applied toward a Master of Science in Business Intelligence and Analytics degree.
