Dr. Kracher has over 20 years developing and sharing insights with students, as well as consulting and educating leaders of numerous local and national businesses and professional associations. Her expertise involves every facet of what constitutes ethical behavior, from how to deal with everyday moral dilemmas and stop moral snowballs, to how to align an organization to its core values and drive economic development in an ethical community.

Biography

Are ethics good for business? Dr. Beverly Kracher is sure of it; she is devoted to showing others how ethical principles can grow communities and improve businesses—one person, one company and one community at a time.

As a professor at Creighton University’s Heider College of Business, Dr. Kracher holds the Robert B. Daugherty Endowed Chair in Business Ethics and Society and has been honored with the college’s Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award.

Dr. Kracher is also the CEO and executive director of the nonprofit Business Ethics Alliance that delivers city-level ethics education to businesses. In recognition of her leadership with the Alliance, she was named the 2013 Business Woman of the Year by the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and recognized as a Top 100 Thought Leader by Trust Across America and Trust Around the World, leaders in organizational trust.

Both roles are intrinsically intertwined as Dr. Kracher transforms ethics from academic theory to positive and practical application in the everyday business world. At the college, she challenges and inspires students to become ethical leaders who will someday create businesses that benefit the community and the world at large. At the Alliance, she coaches and advises many of America’s strongest and most successful leaders on the benefits of running ethically-based businesses.

Education

Dr. Kracher joined Creighton University in 1988 as an instructor in the Department of Philosophy before moving to the College of Business in 1990.

Earning her Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, in 1991, she was an Assistant Professor of Business Ethics and Society from 1990 - 2009, and Associate Director of the Anna Tyler Waite Center for Leadership from 2002 - 2007. Also in 2007, she was a research fellow with the Center for International Business Ethics in Beijing, China, collaborating with local scholars on a Chinese business ethics textbook.

Previous instructor positions include the University of Nebraska – Omaha, College of Saint Mary and University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

Other Experience

Dr. Kracher doesn’t just advise businesses, she is a businesswoman. Besides being CEO and executive director of the nonprofit Business Ethics Alliance, she is also vice president of Plant Pros of Omaha, an interior plantscaping microbusiness.

Board Memberships

Dr. Kracher has served on the board of the Better Business Bureau since 2009, as well as the advisory board of the Financial Hope Collaborative (Financial Stability Partnership) since 2006. She has also served on the board of the Creighton University Center for Women since 2001, acting as chair from 2003 through 2004. She currently sits on the advisory board of Integrity Staffing and Solutions and has been affiliated with the Nebraska State Recycling Association, where she served as both the vice chair and chair

Honors & Awards

Professor Kracher has received grants to fund activities of the Business Ethics Alliance from many organizations, including the Kiewit Foundation, Lincoln Financial Foundation, Mutual of Omaha Foundation, Valmont Industries, Union Pacific Railroad and Better Business Bureau Foundation.

In addition to being named the 2013 Omaha Business Woman of the Year, a Big O! Excellence Award, Dr. Kracher was also recently named a Top 100 Thought Leader by Trust Across America—Trust Around the World, and received the Cahill Excellence Award in 2009—the highest award bestowed by Creighton University Heider College of Business. She is a past recipient of a TOYO (Ten Outstanding Young Omahans) for her service and contributions to the Omaha community.

Her current research focuses on ethical business climates and moral reasoning in business, international business ethics and e-commerce ethics.
