THE MISSION OF FMA is to assist finance students in making the transition from students to professionals.  The objectives of the organization are to ensure that its members:

  • Obtain valuable career information;
  • Develop professional insights and attitudes;
  • Gain experience in problem solving and decision making;
  • Increase professional and faculty contacts;
  • Improve social and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrate competence in skill areas beyond those needed to obtain a college degree

These objectives are met by encouraging social interaction between students, faculty, and businesses.  Professional speakers, fundraising, and community service are just a few activities available to members of FMA.

Creighton FMA Students Win at National Collegiate Investment Competition

Creighton University College of Business Administration Financial Management Association (FMA) won first place in the Texas Christian University-organized National Collegiate Investment Competition “between undergraduate investment/finance clubs from some of the nation’s top schools.”  The two students representing Creighton were and Ricky Anderson, FMA President, and David Bogard, FMA Vice President, and they won the $750 first prize award.

Schools competed to produce the best performance managing a virtual stock portfolio over the course of the 2008 fall academic semester.  Participants ranged from the College of William and Mary to the University of San Diego and included such notables as the University of North Carolina, SMU, Syracuse University, Oklahoma State University and Michigan State.

The Creighton students achieved a 29.5% return on their investments, more than doubling the performance of the second place team from SMU (13.7%), and shattering the -22% change in the DJIA during the same period.

Creighton FMA Students Attend Finance Leaders' Conference

This spring Creighton University College of Business Administration Financial Management Association (FMA) sent four students to the FMA Finance Leaders’ Conference in Chicago, IL at Hotel Allegro on March 25th and 26th.  The four students representing Creighton were and Thomas Kershisnik, FMA President, James Souza, FMA Vice President, Shelby Clymer, FMA Treasurer, and Matthew Behrens, FMA Secretary.

Students had the opportunity too listened to financial leaders speak, take tours of local businesses, and interact with other students from around the world.  Speakers discussed topics of secrets to a successful job search, fraud & finance, and portfolio management to name a few.  Students also had the opportunity to tour the Chicago Mercantile Exchanges visitors’ center & walk the trading floor as well as visit the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.  The two day event also included brainstorming sessions on how to improve and grow our chapter once we returned home.
